Mental Health Monday’s #2
Are you feeling anxious?
Nervous, distressed and nauseous are some of the symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety is a condition where people feel stressed in certain environments. This condition can be normal; you just need to realise when you need help. Most people can control it in their daily lives. It’s only when you can’t cope, you need support.
Did you know that over 1 in 5 reported high anxiety due to working from home this is most likely due to not socialising with people and feeling ‘contained’ in your environment. Loneliness the main factor for feeling anxious in 2020. It is recorded that women are twice as likely to feeling anxious than men. The question we need to ask, is it because men don’t like talking about how they feel?... anxiety for men is real and needs to be voiced!
How to deal with anxiety?
Coping mechanisms:
1. Change your environment – walking out your current situation and taking break will help clear your head.
2. Get some sleep! – sleep is overlooked. Get into a good sleep schedule. Turn your mobile off every night and invest in an alarm clock.
3. Take deep breaths – if you are ever feeling anxious, take a step back and take a deep breath. Slow your breathing down and remind yourself everything is going to be okay.
4. Find out what starts your anxiety – make a list of situations that makes you feel anxious and find out why that triggers your anxiety. If you know what causes you to be anxious you can either avoid it or practice it if you can’t avoid it.
5. Talk to someone – you don’t always need to talk to a professional, speak to family and friends get a second opinion. It normally eases what your thinking.
